Central Vietnam detects 2 drug smuggling cases in one day

HANOI, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- The border guard of Vietnams central Quang Tri province on Sunday announced that they handled two separate cases of transporting synthetic drugs on Saturday.

The border post of Lao Bao international border gate arrested a 34-year-old man named Dao Duy Khanh from Quang Tri on Saturday night when he was transporting 1,608 pills of lab-made drugs.

Earlier on the same day, the border post detained a 39-year-old man from central Quang Binh province for transporting 748 pills of synthetic drugs.

According to the Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine are punishable by death. Making or trading 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of other illegal drugs also faces death penalty.
