YAOUNDE, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Cameroon's national vote counting commission on Monday handed over the tentative results of the country's Oct. 7 presidential poll to the Constitutional Council, according to the commission.

According to Cameroon Electoral Code, the Constitutional Council is expected to "adopt and proclaim" the results of the election within 15 days of the close of the poll.

The Council will on Tuesday begin hearing petitions from some opposition candidates and voters demanding the nullification of the poll, said secretary general of the institution Malego Joseph Asse in a statement on Sunday.

Among those who have petitioned the court are three opposition candidates who want the election to be either partially or totally annulled, citing "irregularities" and "rigging" they observed during the poll.

The decisions of the Constitutional Council relating to elections and election results shall be final, according to the Electoral Code.
