UNITED NATIONS, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Monday expressed his sadness over reports of deaths and injuries caused by cyclone Titli in eastern India, said his spokesperson Stephane Dujarric.

The UN chief extended his condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and people of India, and wished the injured a speedy recovery, Dujarric said.

Cyclone Titli hit Odisha and the neighboring Andhra Pradesh Thursday before it weakened into a deep depression.

At least 21 people died in floods and heavy rains triggered by cyclone Titli in Odisha, officials have said.

Millions of people have been affected in Odisha, mainly in the worst-hit districts of Ganjam, Gajapati and Rayagada, and thousands of houses were damaged in Andhra Pradesh.

Cyclone Titli also disrupted road and telecommunications networks and power supplies.
