JUBA, Oct. 16 (Xinhua) -- South Sudan lost to Gabon 1-0 in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match at Juba Stadium on Tuesday, extending the East African country's winless run in the qualifications to four straight games.

New South Sudan head coach Ramzi Sebit has now lost two matches in a row following the resignation of former head coach Ahcene Ait-Abdelmalek in late September.

Remze blamed his side's poor performance on the bad pitch and inadequate time for preparations, adding that he hopes to get a win in their next home match against Burundi in a fortnight. Despite the loss, Gabonese head coach Daniel Cousin called the South Sudanese team as a "strong side with high potential" if given the chance to improve.

The Bright Stars of South Sudan have continued their poor form as they have now lost twice to Gabon in less than a week, following a 3-0 thrashing in Libreville over the weekend.

The win took the Gabonese to second place in Group C with seven points, just two points behind group leaders Mali while South Sudan remain bottom of the table without a point after four matches.
