YANGON, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- A taxi driver has been attacked by a passenger who slashed the throat of the driver on a road in Kyauktan, the remote outskirts of Myanmar's Yangon, and then drove the car away, the official Global New Light of Myanmar reported Thursday.

The taxi driver was found with a deep cut in his throat, bleeding and falling down beside the road while local police arrived at the scene.

The driver was urgently brought to Yangon General Hospital.

The police is hunting the suspect who was believed to have escaped from the scene.

The passenger allegedly hired the taxi for a roundtrip from Thakayta township to Kyauktan township on Tuesday. Upon arrival at the scene of the crime, the passenger asked the driver to stop and slit the driver in the neck.

The passenger drove away the taxi while the driver tried to get out of the car.

Upon hearing the shout for help, locals nearby informed the police of the incident.

The robbed taxi was found at a place 800 meters from the scene on the next day, the report added.
