LISBON, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Portugal's Foreigners and Frontiers Service (SEF) announced Thursday that it will create specialized teams to protect victims of human trafficking in the country.
In a statement, the SEF said that it will make available more specialized teams by the end of this year, in the northern, central and southern areas of the country, aimed at "integrated intervention in the protection and reception of victims of trafficking in human beings."
Currently, SEF has only one team operating at Lisbon airport, with personnel of the Human Trafficking Unit, supported by a public prosecutor.
The team works in the fight against human trafficking by air and is dedicated to the cases detected at the Lisbon airport.
This year SEF registered 26 criminal cases related to trafficking in human beings.
