Medium-strength quakes hit Canada

OTTAWA, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- A series of medium strength earthquakes measuring between 6.6 to 6.8 on the Richter scale struck off the Canadian province of British Columbia on Monday, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The latest report said an earthquake measuring 6.8 in magnitude jolted 197 km southwest of Port Hardy. Previous USGS reports said a quake measured at 6.6 magnitude also hit the region.

The epicenter, with a depth of 10.0 km, was initially determined to be at 49.3468 degrees north latitude and 129.2135 degrees west longitude.

Port Hardy is located on the northeastern end of Vancouver Island.

So far, there are no reports of damage or injuries, and no tsunami warnings were issued.
