KIEV, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- The possible deployment of the UN peacekeeping troops in eastern Ukraine could bring peace to the conflict-hit region, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said here on Wednesday.
"UN-mandated multinational peacekeeping operation with a strong mandate and broad responsibilities would help bring peace on the Ukrainian soil," Poroshenko wrote on Facebook.
Last month, Poroshenko called on the UN to deploy peacekeeping troops in Donbas where the conflict between Ukrainian government forces and pro-independence armed groups has been underway since April 2014.
Earlier, Poroshenko said that the UN patrol should be stationed across the whole area controlled by the armed groups, including the Ukrainian-Russian border.
