ADDIS ABABA, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopia on Wednesday announced the release of 322 youths arrested in connection with riots in Burayu city, on the outskirts of the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa, in September that left dozens dead and thousands displaced.

Chief Constable Begena Midegsa of Burayu city police office, said the 322 youths were released after receiving education and orientation on the country's laws in two centers, state media outlet Ethiopia Broadcasting Corporation (EBC) reported.

Midegsa said another 308 people arrested in connection with the September violence will be brought before courts, as they are suspected of engaging in criminal acts.

The Sept. 12-18 riots in Burayu, pitting ethnic Oromos against other ethnicities, left dozens of people dead and around 26,000 displaced.

The riots followed earlier clashes in Addis Ababa among local residents and youth from surrounding ethnic Oromo areas who flocked to the city to celebrate the return of the exiled rebel leader of the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) group.

Addis Ababa is an ethnically-mixed city of around 4 million people, but is situated within the larger Oromo-dominated Oromia regional state.
