ABUJA, Oct. 27 (Xinhua) -- Unidentified gunmen killed at least six persons, including a police corporal, in Nigeria's northwestern state of Zamfara, local police said on Saturday.

Three others were severely wounded by the attackers who stormed Gurbin Bore, a village in the state's Zurmi area, late Friday, the police said.

About 100 militants attacked the village.

Zamfara police spokesman Mohammed Shehu told Xinhua that 11 vehicles, including a police van, were set on fire by the attackers. Three motorcycles owned by local residents were also burned.

Shehu said an investigation has been launched to apprehend the attackers.

He said the police suspected that the attackers came from Dumburum forest, where a bandits' camp is believed to be located.

A local government official told reporters that 13 shops were also razed by the attackers.
