ARUSHA, Tanzania, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- Tanzania has sacked 46 education officer who were allegedly involved in the recent Standard Seven national examinations cheating scandal, a senior official said on Sunday.

Tixson Nzunda, Deputy Permanent Secretary in the President's Office Regional Administration and Local Government, said that those who have been fired include education officials from four districts of Dodoma, Kondoa, Rorya and Chemba.

"All the suspects have been relieved off duties and they will later be taken to the Teachers Service Commission for further investigation," Nzunda said in an interview with Xinhua.

Early this month, the National Examinations Council of Tanzania nullified results for 110 primary schools over cheating and other irregularities.

The schools include all those in Chemba district, Dodoma region. And the impacted schools also include Hazina and New Hazina primary schools in Dar es Salaam, Alliance, New Alliance and Kisiwani schools in Mwanza.

The school managements are alleged to have colluded with district authorities to reveal the exam papers to pupils prior to the day of the exam.
