LONDON, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- The British people are expected to brace for strong winds, downpours and subzero temperatures this week as two storms are set to bring severe weather conditions to the UK in the coming days, weather forecasters said Tuesday.

The center of the depression will track eastwards from Ireland across central Britain on Tuesday evening and overnight, bringing heavy rain, but there will also be some particularly strong winds to the south of the low center.

Forecasters have warned of heavy rain and gusts as Storm Adrian is expected to lash the southeast on Tuesday after causing floods in Italy and rainfall in the Alps.

It comes as temperatures are set to stay well below freezing following lows of -7.3 degrees Celsius in Cumbria in northwest England on Monday night.

The wind and rain are to continue as what remains of Hurricane Oscar, which is currently in the mid-Atlantic, will bring torrential rain and gales to western parts on Friday.
