ATHENS, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale shook Zakynthos Island in the Ionian Sea on Tuesday afternoon without causing any injuries or severe material damages, Greek national news agency AMNA reported.

According to Greek seismologists it was one of the strong aftershocks after a 6.4 on the Richter scale quake jolted the area on Friday which also did not cause casualties, but only some material damages.

Greek experts have reported over 100 aftershocks since Friday, including a 5.4 tremor early Tuesday.

The latest aftershock's epicenter was located about 49 kilometers southwest of Zakynthos at 10 kilometers depth, according to the Geodynamic Institute of the Athens Observatory.

Efthymios Lekkas, president of Greece's Earthquake Planning and Protection Organization, told local SKAI TV on Tuesday that such strong aftershocks are good news, because the possibilities for a stronger quake are reduced.
