TOKYO, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks closed sharply higher on Friday.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average surged 556.01 points, or 2.56 percent, from Thursday to close the day at 22,243.66.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 26.71 points, or 1.64 percent, to finish at 1,658.76.
Machinery, marine transportation, and glass and ceramic product-linked issues comprised those that gained the most by the close of play.
