Profile: Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev

BEIJING, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev will pay an official visit to China on Nov. 5-7 at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.

The two will hold the 23rd regular meeting between Chinese and Russian prime ministers.

During his stay in China, Medvedev will also attend the first China International Import Expo in Shanghai.

The following is a brief profile of the Russian prime minister.

Medvedev was born on Sept. 14, 1965, in the Russian city of Leningrad, now known as St. Petersburg. He completed post-graduate studies in law at Leningrad State University in 1990.

From 1990 to 1999, Medvedev taught as an associate professor at Leningrad (St. Petersburg) State University. He also worked as an advisor to the Chairman of the Leningrad City Council, and an expert consultant with St. Petersburg City Hall's Committee for External Affairs.

In 1999, Medvedev worked as deputy chief of staff of the Russian Government Executive Office.

From 2000 to 2005, he served in sequence as deputy chief of staff, first deputy chief of staff and chief of staff of the Russian Presidential Executive Office. In November 2005, he was appointed first deputy prime minister of the Russian government.

In March 2008, Medvedev was elected as the Russian president. He assumed the post of prime minister in May 2012, and again in May 2018.

During his terms of office as president and prime minister, Medvedev traveled to China six times for official visits or international events.

He is married and has a son.
