LOS ANGELES, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- An exhibition of traditional Chinese handicrafts was launched here Sunday to showcase Chinese culture.

The exhibition, which runs until Nov. 9, is presenting works of Chinese paper cutting, clay figurine, silk painting and calligraphy at the Sino-Asian Art Gallery in El Monte, Los Angeles.

Chen Yuancai, honorary president of the Global Arts and Crafts Association, said that she hopes the exhibition would showcase the profoundness of Chinese culture to the world, and promote closer cultural exchanges between China and the United States.

Shamil Effinian, a producer of Digital Era Productions LLC, told Xinhua that he is shooting a film related to China, and hoped to draw inspiration from the exhibition so that more Chinese materials could be added to his film.

The calligraphy works of American Chinese painter Sun Xiaohua were also on display in the exhibition. As art has no national boundaries, Sun noted, it can serve as an efficient way to strengthen communication among people.

He voiced his hope that more China-U.S. cultural exchange activities could be held in the United Stats, which will help deepen mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples.
