ADDIS ABABA, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Ethiopian foreign ministry said Thursday that 45 African leaders are expected to attend the 11th African Union (AU) extraordinary summit of heads of state, scheduled for Nov. 17-18, at the AU headquarters in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.

In a press statement, the ministry said the African leaders are expected to discuss the need to reform the AU Commission, to make the continental body more effective to meet the needs of its 55 member states and to make the AU capable in facing regional and international challenges.

In particular, the leaders are expected to discuss the progress in meeting continental economic and political integration goals as outlined in the AU 2063 Agenda.

The extraordinary summit will be preceded by a meeting of senior ministers from the AU's 55 member states, on Nov. 14-15, which is expected to set the agenda for the summit.
