Overseas Bangladesh remittances reach 5.1 bln USD in 4 months

DHAKA, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) -- Overseas Bangladeshis in the first four months of the current 2018-2019 fiscal year (July 2018-June 2019) remitted home 5.1 billion U.S. dollars, the central bank data showed.

According to Bangladesh Bank (BB) data, some 10 million Bangladeshis, living and working abroad, remitted home 5,108 million dollars from July to October this year against 4,553 million U.S. dollars in the same period a year ago.

The data showed that overseas Bangladeshis in October sent home 1,239.11 million U.S. dollars and the amount was higher by about 77 million U.S. dollars than the level of remittance receipts in the same month last year.

The inflow remittances, one of the key sources of foreign exchange for the nation, in the last 2017-2018 fiscal year which concluded in June reached 14.98 billion U.S. dollars, 17.32 percent higher than the same period a year ago, the BB data showed.

Most of the remittances come from the Gulf countries, according to the bank.
