IFRC vice chairman calls for joint efforts to address humanitarian challenges

MANILA, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Chen Zhu, vice chairman of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), on Monday called for joint efforts in dealing with humanitarian challenges facing the world.

In his speech at the 10th IFRC Asia-Pacific Regional Conference, Chen highly praised the role the IFRC members in the region played in meeting the ever increasing humanitarian demands.

"The world is facing ever more issues that needs joint efforts by all countries to deal with, and IFRC members therefore should and must enhance communications and join hands in addressing these problems," Chen told the meeting.

"In the face of the complicated and serious challenges, we should work together to create a community of shared future for mankind," added Chen, who is also head of the Red Cross Society of China and is leading the the Red Cross of China delegation to the meeting.

In the on-going four-day meeting kicked off last Sunday, some 300 members from 51 Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in the Asia-Pacific region and Middle East are attending the conference in the Philippine capital city of Manila to look at ways to strengthen their work.
