SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 14 (Xinhua) -- U.S. top ride-sharing company Uber Technologies Inc. (Uber) Wednesday announced new measures to increase customer loyalty to its service by offering more benefits to passengers.

Uber said the new plan called Uber Rewards is a first-of-its-kind program that will let customers earn cash that can be spent on both rides and its food delivery service, or even offer free cancellations for those who reach Gold membership.

Uber's rewarding program includes four membership levels: Blue, Gold, Platinum and Diamond.

Members will earn one point for every dollar spent on Uber Pool and Uber Eats, 2 dollars for UberX and 3 dollars for luxury Uber rides.

Having earned 500 points, members will go from Blue to Gold, then to Platinum at 2,500 points and ultimately to Diamond for 7,500 points.

Uber will provide Diamond members with round-the-clock dedicated phone service and enjoy fixed rates to be added between two set locations.

San Francisco-based Uber said anyone who opts into the program will earn an extra 5 dollars to his Uber Cash balance for every 500 points that can be spent on its existing ride or food delivery service.

The company is planning to roll out the rewarding program in Miami, New Jersey, Denver, New York and Washington D.C., among others, before making it available to all U.S. riders over the next few months.

Two days ago, Uber's rival Lyft announced a similar loyalty program to be launched in December this year.
