JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- At least 20 militants loyal to the hardliner Islamic State (IS) were killed following a government forces operation in the country's eastern Nangarhar province, said a statement of provincial government released here Friday.

"Personnel of the National Directorate of Security (NDS) launched an operation, late on Thursday night, killing up to 20 fighters, including some of their local commanders leaders, in Achin district," the statement said.

Five of the militants' training and equipment centers were also destroyed during the operation, the statement said, adding the militants were planned to launch subversive activities in Achin district and provincial capital Jalalabad city, but the operations have foiled their vicious designs.

According to the statement, no civilian or government troop were killed or injured in the operation, the statement said.

The IS militants fighting government forces in the region have not commented on the event.
