ACCRA, Nov. 18 (Xinhua) -- Ghana's defensive midfielder Thomas Partey, 25, has been shortlisted for the 2018 BBC African Player of the Year award.

The Athletico Madrid strongman has been on top form for both club and country this year as he helped his club to finish second in the La Liga last season and also win the Europa League.

Partey has also become an influential player for the national team, the Black Stars.

Other nominees for the prestigious award include Sadio Mane (Senegal and Liverpool), Mohammed Salah (Egypt and Liverpool), Mehdi Benata (Morocco and Juventus) and Kalidou Koulibaly (Senegal and Napoli).

Should Partey win the award, he will be the sixth Ghanaian footballer to have won it.

The results will be announced on Dec. 14.

The BBC African Footballer of the Year is an annual award given to the best African footballer of the year as voted by the BBC radio listeners.

Liverpool forward Salah won last year's award.
