JALALABAD, Afghanistan, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- A total of 51 militants affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) have been killed in Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province over the past week, an official said Monday.

"The operation was launched in Hasaka Mina district and lasted for a week, resulting in the death of up to 51 IS fighters and elimination of some of their training and equipment centers," Ataullah Khogyani, the provincial governor's spokesman, told Xinhua.

"Anti-Islamic State operations are successfully going on and some areas have also been recaptured from the militants' clutches in the troubled district, where no casualties were inflicted on civilians or security forces," added the spokesman.

The hardliner IS outfit has yet to make comment on the claim.
