TUNIS, Nov. 20 (Xinhua) -- The annual bill to be paid for the food waste from Tunisian families reaches 572 million dinars (about 197 million U.S. dollars), which represents five percent of food expenses, said Tarek Ben Jazia, director of Tunisia National Institute of Consumption, on Tuesday.
"At the same time, about 600,000 Tunisians suffer from poor nutrition, which is 4.9 percent of the population," Jazia said.
Citing bread, the main food wasted by Tunisians, Jazia said that no less than 2.7 percent of Tunisian families waste 113,000 tons of bread per year, about 100 million dinars (34.4 million U.S. dollars).
