ULAN BATOR, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- The Mongolian government decided Wednesday to discharge a vice minister over a scandal involving financial irregularities.
Shukhert Lkhamsuren, Vice Minister of Construction and Urban Development, was fired for his company named "Darkhan Makh" that allegedly obtained a low-interest loan of 450 million Mongolian Tugriks (227,000 U.S. dollars) from the fund in 2017.
Another high-ranking official, Tsultem Nyam-Osor, head of the Government Agency for Policy Coordination on State Property, was also dismissed during a government meeting on Wednesday for the same reason, the government's press office said in a statement.
Members of the Mongolian parliament and government and other high ranking officials were reported last month to have obtained a number of loans with low interest rates from a fund aimed at helping small and medium-sized enterprises.
A total of 27 lawmakers of the ruling Mongolian People's Party submitted a proposal Monday to dissolve the state government in connection with the scandal.
According to the country's Constitution, a proposal on dissolving government should be considered within 15 days.
Mongolian Prime Minister Ukhnaa Khurelsukh's government will be dismissed if the proposal is supported by over 50 percent of lawmakers in the 76-seat parliament.
