VALLETTA, Nov. 21 (Xinhua) -- Maltese customs authorities had seized 44 kg of cocaine in Malta on its way from Ecuador to Cyprus, it was revealed on Wednesday.
Malta Customs said in a statement that the street value is calculated to be 4.5 million euros (5.1 million U.S. dollars).
The drugs were found in a refrigerated container, which was behind a panel above the refrigerant compressor.
A total of 35 individual packets weighing a total of 44 kg were elevated. The substance was tested and preliminary results point to a positive indication for cocaine.
The case was handed over to the police Drug Squad for further investigation.
