MOGADISHU, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- At least 10 people were killed and six others injured in a car bomb explosion in a busy market in Mogadishu's Wadajir district, police and witnesses said Monday.

A police officer who did want to be named told Xinhua that the car was parked near the busy market in Kawa Godey village in Wadajir district and exploded, resulting in the death of 10 people.

"I can confirm to you that 10 people died in the blast which also damaged buildings at the area. Those killed in the blast were civilians," the officer said.

Witnesses reported the blast saying it sent black smoke into the sky.

"It was huge and caused panic among the people, police arrived at the scene, preventing the public from approaching," Abdirrahman Moallim, a resident, told Xinhua.

No one has claimed responsibility for the latest attack. The incident comes after militant group al-Shabab on early Monday struck a religious center in Galkayo in central Somalia, killing at least 25 people.
