SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Two militants were killed on Thursday in a predawn gunfight with contingents of police and army in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The gunfight broke out at village Shershali-Khrew of Pulwama district, about 22 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"A gunfight broke out here early today between militants and government forces in which two militants were killed," a police official posted in Awantipora told Xinhua.

"The joint contingents of police and army cordoned off the area around midnight on specific intelligence information suggesting presence of militants," the police official said.

Indian army or police personnel have not suffered any damage in the stand-off.

The slain militants have been identified as local cadres of indigenous militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen.
