BANGKOK, Nov. 29 (Xinhua) -- Seven people were busted in Thailand-Malaysia border when speed pills worth 35 million baht (1.06 million U.S. dollars) were seized in the van they traveled in on Thursday.

Police said at a media briefing that the gang, including six men and one woman, posing as a family on tour, were found possessing 710,000 methamphetamine pills hidden inside their van.

They had been traveling from the central plain of the country and tried to send the drugs to the deep south, police said.

Police got information that a large quantity of drugs would be smuggled to southern Thailand and they had kept a close watch along possible transit routes since Nov. 26.

The suspected van was followed and asked to stop for a search in Narathiwat Province's border area. Police found the speed pills inside hidden compartments planted into the vehicle.

The suspects are charged with possessing illicit drugs with intent to sell.
