Turkish export, foreign trade deficit improve in Oct.

ISTANBUL, Nov. 30 (Xinhua) -- Turkey's exports increased by 13 percent year-on-year in October, while its foreign trade deficit narrowed by 93.8 percent during the same period, the Turkish Statistics Institute reported on Friday.

The exports in October totaled 15.7 billion U.S. dollars, up from 13.9 billion dollars over the same period last year, the data released by the agency showed.

Meanwhile, the country's foreign trade deficit shrunk by 93.8 percent to 456 million dollars, from 7.3 billion dollars a year ago.

Turkey's imports in October decreased by 23.8 percent, down to 16.2 billion dollars from 21.2 billion dollars a year ago.

The European Union was Turkey's largest exporter in October with a volume of 7.8 billion dollars, an increase of 13.8 percent.

According to the data, Germany was the main exporter of Turkey in October, accounting for 1.5 billion dollars, followed by Britain of 1.1 billion dollars and Italy of 877 million dollars.

Russia emerged as Turkey's largest importer in October with a volume of 1.9 billion dollars, followed by Germany of 1.6 billion dollars and China of 1.4 billion dollars.
