BERLIN, Dec. 5 (Xinhua) -- The transport service Uber will return to the German city of Frankfurt, head of Uber Germany Christoph Weigler told newspaper Bild on Wednesday.

"We have seen that half a million people wanted to travel with Uber in Frankfurt this year alone, but could not because we were not here", Weigler said.

Uber services are accessed via an app and include UberTaxi, a service that connects customers to regular taxis, UberX which books rental cars with a chauffeur, as well as UberGreen for electric cars.

In 2014, the American company Uber first attempted to gain a foothold on the German market via UberPop which connects passengers with private drivers in private vehicles. German taxi associations successfully filed a lawsuit against Uber because private drivers had no taxi license or permission to transport passengers.

Since then, Uber has only been active in Germany as taxi and rental car service in the cities of Berlin and Munich but recently also resumed operations again in Dusseldorf.

According to head of Uber Germany Weigler, statutory violations relating to UberPop would no longer occur in Germany. "We must and will stick to the legal framework without any ifs and buts", Weigler said.
