ABUJA, Dec. 10 (Xinhua) -- Nigeria's anti-graft body on Monday denied arresting the sons of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is also the presidential candidate of the main opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP).

"This is nothing but another tales by moonlight," Tony Orilade, spokesperson for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) said in a statement.

"We have received several calls and e-mail messages asking us to confirm the arrest of the sons of Abubakar as being alleged in some quarters. Some only said we raided the apartments of Atiku's sons looking for foreign currencies," he added.

The spokesperson said the commission, as a responsible organization, was abreast of the establishment mandate and shall not deviate from such mandate.

"We never went after Atiku's sons, neither were Atiku's sons among the two boys arrested," he added.

Meanwhile, Minister of Information Lai Mohammed has said the opposition is making fake news against President Muhammadu Buahri's administration before the 2019 elections.

The minister made the remarks at a media briefing in Abuja, saying the opposition was short of ideas and resulted in fake news because it could not fault the administration on performance.

The minister said the government had raised alarm over the fake news phenomenon as far back as 2017.
