CAIRO, Dec. 13 (Xinhua) -- Egypt has officially proposed to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after Cameroon was disqualified by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for late and inadequate preparations, the Egyptian state TV reported Thursday.

"Egypt is organizationally and technically ready to host the competition," Ashraf Sobhi, Egypt's Minister of Youth and Sports, told a radio station on Thursday.

Egypt has the highest level of infrastructure to host such a continental sports event, he added.

The 2019 AFCON will be the 32nd edition of the top continental men's football championship in Africa.

Egypt hosted the competition three times in 1974, 1986 and 2006 and won the title seven times, with the latest in 2010.
