TIRANA, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Visiting North Atlantic Treaty Organization(NATO)Deputy Secretary Rose Gottemoeller on Friday underlined NATO's commitment to security of Albania through the project to modernize an air force base in the country.
"We intend to invest 51 million euros (around 57.5 million U.S. dollars) to modernize the air force base in Kuçova and this investment particularly affects the aspect of fuel supply or other logistics. This project aims to modernize and increase the level of security," Gottemoeller said during a press conference with Albanian Minister of Defense Olta Xhaçka.
The senior officer commended Albania for increasing the staff of NATO's reaction force in Afghanistan, for its effective participation in the multinational combat force in Latvia, and for standing alongside the allies through its personnel and financial contributions to Ukraine and the cyber war.
"This attests to your contribution to peace and security," Gottemoeller noted.
Minister Xhaçka assured that Albania is seriously determined and committed to maintaining the alliance's cohesion.
"NATO's investment in Kuçova's air base is a project that confirms our country as a security leader in the region and beyond," he noted.
