Bhutan PM to visit India this week

NEW DELHI, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- Bhutan Prime Minister Lotay Tshering will pay a state visit to India from December 27 to 29 at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the external affairs ministry officially announced in New Delhi on Monday.

This will be his first overseas visit after assuming the office of the Bhutan prime minister last month.

The Bhutan prime minister will be accompanied by his minister of foreign affairs, minister of economic affairs and other senior officials from the royal government of Bhutan.

According to an official statement issued by India's external affairs ministry, the Bhutan prime minister's visit is taking place during the "Golden Jubilee" year of the establishment of the formal diplomatic relations between the two sides.

During the visit, he will call on President of India Ram Nath Kovind and Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, besides holding talks with his Indian counterpart Modi.

Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and other ministers too will call on the visiting prime minister.
