BANGKOK, Dec. 24 (Xinhua) -- The planned removal of wartime bombs from Mae Klong River in western Thailand has been put off indefinitely following discovery of more dud bombs, a senior government official said on Monday.

Seven unexploded bombs, dropped into the river from warplanes during World War II, have been discovered on the riverbed under a railway bridge in Ratchaburi province, about 100 km west of Bangkok, according to provincial governor Chayawut Jantorn.

More wartime explosives might possibly lie unexploded under the water, the provincial governor added.

Authorities planned to remove the dud bombs and dispose of them elsewhere this month, but the latest discovery of more explosives prompted them to think twice, Chayawut said.

The Thai government is to consult with British and German experts about appropriate removal of those explosives.

A new railway bridge will be built alongside the existing Chulalongkorn railway bridge which crosses the river in Ratchaburi.
