BANGKOK, Dec. 26 (Xinhua) -- Three firefighters were seriously injured as an electronic waste warehouse exploded in Bangkok's southern suburbs on Wednesday, police said.

The warehouse which contained a large volume of used electronic equipment and accessories for waste treatment was engulfed in a fire and blew up, seriously injuring the three firefighters who were rushed to a nearby hospital and slightly injuring an employee of the warehouse, according to police inspector Pol. Lt. Col. Nanthawit Charoenphorn.

The police are investigating the cause of the blaze and blast, which might have been caused by a short circuit or excessive heat inside the electronic waste warehouse on two acres of land in Pracha Uthit area of Thung Khru district.

The owner of the warehouse, identified as Pakorn Srisawat, has not been given an operating license from the authorities as yet, the police inspector said.
