TOKYO, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened sharply higher Monday as investor sentiment was bolstered by solid gains made late last week on Wall Street.
As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 663.46 points, or 3.39 percent, from Friday to 20,225.42.
The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 48.96 points, or 3.33 percent, to 1,520.12.
Comprising machinery, nonferrous metal and marine transportation issues, all industry categories advanced into positive territory in the opening minutes after the morning bell.
