BERLIN, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- The federal chairman of Germany's green party Robert Habeck announced to delete his Twitter and Facebook accounts following a big data breach in Germany, he revealed on the green party's website on Monday.

Habeck was among those worst affected by the historic data leak as records of his personal chats with family members were available for download via a Twitter account.

"If there is anything positive to be gained from this, it is that the politicians, the police investigations, will finally wake up and be sharply focused," Habeck commented on the leak.

The chairman of the green party is one of the most prominent German politicians on social media and had around 48,000 followers on Twitter, more than Chancellor Merkel.

"It may be that this is a political mistake because I deprive myself of reach and direct communication with quite a few people," green party politician Habeck said. "But I know it would be a bigger mistake not to take that step."
