KHARTOUM, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on Wednesday said that saboteurs would be faced decisively and any change to power would be through ballot boxes.

"The way to power will be decided by the people through the ballot boxes," al-Bashir said when addressing a mass rally of his supporters in Khartoum.

He further accused unnamed trends of conspiring against Sudan and sowing sedition with the aim to economically fight and tame it.

The Sudanese president further commended the friendly countries which supported Sudan, namely China, Russia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar.

The Sudanese national dialogue parties on Wednesday organized a mass rally at the Green Square in Khartoum in support of al-Bashir's government.

Since Dec. 19, 2018, various areas in Sudan, including Khartoum, have been witnessing popular protests over the deteriorating economic conditions and price hikes of basic commodities.

According to government statistics, 19 people have been killed during the popular protests.
