2 Vietnamese arrested for trafficking drugs from Laos

HANOI, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Police of Vietnam's central Thanh Hoa province said on Wednesday that they have recently detained two men for trafficking methamphetamine and heroin from Laos to the Vietnamese locality.

The police arrested Hoang Ngoc Bang, 40, from Muong Lat district, when was selling a packet of heroin and a pill of lab-made drug. After that, they found 2,020 pills when searching Bang's house.

The police also detained Vi Van Dong, 36, from Quan Hoa district, and seized 1 kg of crystal methamphetamine, 4,200 pills of lab-made drug, a cake of heroin, a homemade gun, and dozens of knives and swords at his house.

According to the Vietnamese law, those convicted of smuggling over 600 grams of heroin or more than 2.5 kg of methamphetamine are punishable by death. Making or trading 100 grams of heroin or 300 grams of other illegal drugs also faces death penalty.
