NEW DELHI, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Indian police's anti-terror squad (ATS) in western state of Maharashtra arrested nine suspects including a teenager for their alleged terror links, officials said on Wednesday.

"The arrests were made on specific intelligence inputs while investigating the presence of sleeper cells in the state," the police official said.

The arrests have been made ahead of India's Republic Day, celebrated on Jan. 26 every year across the country. The main function is held in Indian capital New Delhi.

"ATS sleuths gathered relevant information about these people and started trailing them for several weeks. They have been arrested for criminal conspiracy and unlawful activities," the police official said.

Reports said police have seized chemicals, explosives, mobile phones, hard drives, SIM cards, acid bottles and sharp knives during the raids conducted on their residences.
