JAKARTA, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian Maritime and Fishery Minister Susi Pudjiastuti said on Wednesday that the government plans to set up a fishery logistic agency with the main task to stabilize the price of fishes in the country.

"It is a must. We expect it can be established before the end of the year," Susi said on the sidelines of a cabinet meeting in the presidential palace here.

She said that operation of such an agency is essential to secure the price of fishes, particularly amid enormous supply when fish harvesting period takes place.

The government will appoint two state firms of Indonesia Fishery (Perindo) and Nusantara Fishery (Perinus) in carrying out the assignment in setting up the agency, she said.

The plan to set up the agency is to accommodate inputs filed in by fishermen representatives who met with President Joko Widodo in the palace on Monday.

The fishery logistic agency will act like state logistic agency of Bulog that prevents the falling down of rice retail prices due to enormous supplies after the harvesting period.

According to the data issued by the Maritime and Fishery Ministry, Indonesia has witnessed increasing fish production since 2012.
