JAKARTA, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- The death toll from the severe flood that hit Indonesia's South Sulawesi province rose to 11 as search teams had recovered more bodies from muds and collapsed houses, a regent in the province said on Wednesday.

"As of today at 9.00 p.m. local time, the number of deaths stood at 11 and those declared missing were 17," Regent of Gowa Adnan Purichta Ichsan said.

Most of those killed in the flood were residents from Gowa's district of Manuju, he added.

The massive flood destroyed four bridges in the areas, he said.

The flood in South Sulawesi province took place on Tuesday following torrential rains on Monday.
