KHARTOUM, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir on Sunday returned to capital Khartoum after a one-day visit to Egypt.
"The visit of the president to Egypt constituted a good opportunity for following up the implementation of the different projects agreed upon," Sudan's Foreign Minister Al-Dirdiri Mohamed Ahmed told reporters on Sunday.
He added that the consultations between al-Bashir and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi focused on mutual concerns and the current developments in the Arab and African regions.
The minister said the two sides agreed to reactivate the cooperation among Sudan, Egypt and Ethiopia within the tripartite committee regarding the Nile Valley projects in general and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam in particular.
Since last Dec. 19, various areas in Sudan, including Khartoum, have been witnessing popular protests over the deteriorating economic conditions and price hikes of basic commodities.
According to government statistics, at least 29 people have been killed during the protests.
