ULAN BATOR, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- Mongolia's parliament speaker Miyegombo Enkhbold on Tuesday was removed from his post by parliament in an ad hoc meeting.

A draft resolution calling for Enkhbold's dismissal due to an alleged abuse of power was approved by a vote of 66.2 percent in the country's 76-seat unicameral parliament.

More than half of or 39 lawmakers submitted the draft resolution after an amendment on dismissing the parliament speaker came into force on Friday.

According to the amendment, the parliament speaker must step down if more than half of the 76 lawmakers submit a proposal asking him to leave.

Audio recordings made public last year indicated that some officials of the ruling Mongolian People's Party, including Enkhbold, allegedly used their government positions as a tool to run in the parliamentary election in 2016.
