PARIS, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- French police detained five people on suspicion they had helped a gunman obtain a weapon he used to kill five victims in an attack in eastern French city of Strasbourg, local media reported on Tuesday.
The suspects, from the same family, were arrested in the eastern region of Alsace as part of an inquiry into their role in providing a firearm to Cherif Chekatt, who opened fire against passers-by and stabbed others near a Christmas market in Strasbourg last month, news channel BFMTV reported.
They remained in custody, according to the report.
Chekatt, who had a criminal record and had been on a watchlist for radicalization, was shot dead by police following a manhunt.
