WARSAW, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- One miner is still missing after an earthquake hit a copper mine in western Poland on Tuesday, the mine's operating company KGHM said.

The earthquake occurred early in the afternoon at Rudna copper mine situated in a town called Polkowice of Lower Silesian Voivodeship.

"We don't have the location of the missing miner," said Lidia Marcinkowska-Bartkowiak, the communication director of KGHM Polska Miedz at a press conference.

According to the company, 15 miners have suffered various injuries, including arm or leg fracture as a result of the incident. They are undergoing medical treatment and examination at local hospital, but none of them is in critical condition.

The rescue operation is still in process. Twelve groups of rescuers have been working diligently in searching of the missing miner.

Around a week ago, a miner was killed and eight others were injured as a result of an underground tremor in Rydultowy mine, southern Poland. It made the fifth fatal victim in the Polish mining industry this year.
