LOS ANGELES, Jan. 30 (Xinhua) -- Interstate Hotels & Resorts, a leading U.S.-based global hotel management company, on Wednesday signed a management agreement here with Shanghai Construction Group America (SCGA) for a new hotel project in California.

The new hotel, located in the city of Garden Grove, 60 km southeast of downtown Los Angeles, will be developed by SCGA, a wholly owned subsidiary of Shanghai Construction Group (SCG) and headquartered in New York City.

The construction work on the Le Meridien, designed with a modern twist, is expected to start in the third quarter of 2019 and the hotel to open at the end of 2021. Then Interstate Hotels & Resorts will manage the hotel, which features 400 luxury guest rooms, for the owner SCGA.

"Our goal from day one, upon selecting the global lifestyle Le Meridien brand, was to ensure that we chose the most respected, quality service and product-oriented operator that can deliver on our promise," Winfred Zhang, president and CEO of SCG America, said at Wednesday's ceremony.

"We are honored to be working with SCG America on the Le Meridien, a project that will inject vibrancy into the California hospitality scene," said Michael J. Deitemeyer, president and CEO of Interstate Hotels & Resorts.

He also said partnering with Le Meridien and SCGA furthers the momentum of where Interstate is headed. Deitemeyer welcomed more cooperation with developers from China, saying a new hotel will always change the face of a community.

Interstate Hotels & Resorts is operating branded full- and select-service hotels, resorts, convention centers and independent hotels. The company's global portfolio represents 530 properties all around the world currently.

The Shanghai-based SCG was ranked among the top 10 largest global contractors by Engineering News-Record in 2018. SCGA, which has three decades of experience in the United States, now has billions invested in real estate in the country.
