Revised 4.8-magnitude quake strikes Japan's Kagoshima Prefecture, no tsunami warning

TOKYO, Feb. 10 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a revised magnitude of 4.8 on Sunday struck the Amami Oshima Island region of Japan's Kagoshima Prefecture on the southernmost Kyushu Island, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

The JMA revised its preliminary report of magnitude 5.0 to 4.8 minutes after the quake struck.

The temblor occurred at 2:34 p.m. local time (0534 GMT), with its epicenter at a latitude of 28.3 degrees north and a longitude of 129.5 degrees east, and at a depth of 40 km.

The quake logged 4 in some parts of Kagoshima Prefecture on the Japanese seismic intensity scale which peaks at 7.

So far no tsunami warning has been issued.
